Hi John,

We’re writing to you today in celebration of a significant victory for human rights -- and with a warning about the religious right’s next move.

A federal appeals court has ruled a Virginia school board’s transgender bathroom ban unconstitutional in a massive step towards ensuring equal protection under the law.

While this ruling is undoubtedly great news, the Christian nationalists in our government are still doing everything they can to make life hell for LGBTQ+ Americans. The Department of Health and Human Services has proposed a rule to roll back the gender identity-based nondiscrimination protections of the Affordable Care Act -- and though a preliminary injunction has now blocked the rule from taking effect, the Supreme Court and the next administration will determine the trajectory of transgender rights in America.

As recently as last year, 50% of Americans said transgender citizens should not be allowed to use the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity -- and the legal community’s silence on whether so-called “religious rights exemptions” will weaken LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination protections is deafening. That’s why we’re reaching out to you now -- will you stand with us in demanding that human rights be protected? Let us know your view:

Should religious organizations be allowed to discriminate?

YES   NO

Thank you for your input -- we couldn’t do the work we do without you.
