** Surrey Heath News
------------------------------------------------------------

School buildings: I am delighted that schools in Surrey Heath will benefit from £1,490,639.78 to improve school facilities. This funding will help ensure all children have modern environments which will promote the very best possible schools and education, enabling them to gain all the knowledge and skills they need for success. You can read more here ([link removed]) .

A-Levels and GCSEs: I understand this has been a distressing time for students. The pandemic has created circumstances no one could ever have imagined or wished for. I have been keeping in touch with Secondary Heads in Surrey Heath and I know the Department for Education is working with Ofqual, universities and everyone else affected by this issue to ensure they have the support they need.

Chobham Common Wildfire: A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to thank the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service personnel who've done such a great job in fighting the fire which caused such damage to Chobham Common. I visited Camberley Fire Station to discuss the response to the fire with Surrey's Chief Fire Officer Steve Owen-Hughes and the dedicated team based there, before inspecting the damage done to the Common. The professionalism of our firefighters is second to none, their courage and commitment is inspirational and I'd like to thank them, and local leaders, for their great work.

Access to Ash Ranges: I continue to raise restoring access to the Ash Ranges with the Defence Minister, Jeremy Quin MP, highlighting the strength of feeling in the community. I am due to hold a further meeting with Minister Quin in the near future, and I will provide an update on my Facebook page as soon as I have any news.

Eat Out to Help Out: This scheme, which launched at the start of August and ended on 31 August, was a great way to boost local businesses and protect jobs across our hospitality sector – which has been hard hit by coronavirus – while allowing families to keep more money in their pockets. In the South East, there were 6,396 participating independent establishments, and outlets from smaller chains, and I would like to thank all the constituents who have been supporting local restaurants.

Surrey Heath CCG: I recently had a catch up with Dr Andy Brooks, Chief Officer of SHCCG, and Nicola Airey, Executive Managing Director of Surrey Heath Frimley Collaborative. I am always so impressed by the work they do and their determination to deliver better outcomes for local people.

£650 million investment for NI: We announced a major package of investment ([link removed]) to help traders in Northern Ireland, and support peace, prosperity and reconciliation projects on the island of Ireland.

Applications open for £50 million funding to boost UK customs intermediaries: Customs intermediaries can apply for £50 million of new funding ([link removed]) to increase their capacity to make declarations ahead of 2021. We are encouraging customs intermediaries and traders who make their own declarations to take advantage of the funding now.
