NBWA releases Beer Purchasers' Index for August

Craft Brewing Business reports that beer distributors around the country continue to take an aggressive stance in their ordering to minimize out-of-stocks and compensate for lost draft beer volumes and on-premise closures. The result is the total Beer Purchasers' Index for August 2020 rose to 74 from 58 for August 2019, according to the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA).

Cherokee Distributing Company partnership donates $7,500 to Boys & Girls Clubs

Tennessee-based Cherokee Distributing Company teamed up with E-Z Stop and KenJo Markets to make a total donation of $7,500 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley. "We're grateful to partner with such an impactful organization in our community," said Jeff Knight, general manager for Cherokee Distributing Company. "We wanted to help the Boys & Girls Clubs continue the great work they're doing with young people in our community."

NJ's two largest wine and liquor wholesalers fined $4 million each

Two of New Jersey's largest wine and spirits wholesalers, Allied Beverage Group and Fedway Associates, will pay record-high fines of $4 million each for unfairly favoring their largest retail customers, putting smaller outlets at a competitive disadvantage. A state investigation found that the two liquor wholesalers gave chosen retailers rebates more often and in greater amounts than allowed. The rebates often were deployed as "interest-free loans" to the retailers, according to prosecutors.

Whole Foods test a 'dark store' for online grocery shopping

USA Today reports that Whole Foods, the Amazon-owned grocery chain, is officially opening its first permanent online-only store in Brooklyn, N.Y., to fulfill orders for grocery delivery. Unlike traditional stores, there won't be a prepared foods department, and there won't be a pickup option for shoppers. Orders will be delivered with Amazon delivery drivers, along with some bike delivery.
