Friend,

New York is at its best when our unions are strong. So many of the rights we take for granted in the workplace were only secured because of difficult union fights. Without the ability to organize and advocate for workers' interests, corporations would have no one to keep them in check. From fair pay regulations to improved healthcare to ensuring our workplaces are safe, we all benefit when unions win.

New York City is lucky to have some incredible unions who work hard for the workers of our city, but the same cannot be said across the country. There are billionaire-funded "Right To Work" campaigns, anti-union propaganda efforts, and hostile attacks on immigrant communities intended to shut down any hope for organizing against labor abuses. The GOP is trying to curtail any power workers have, and it's up to us to fight back and protect our unions.

Despite GOP efforts, things are looking up. Union support is nearing a fifty-year high, currently sitting at 64%. People are seeing the power of unionizing thanks to the teachers' strikes in states like West Virginia and Oklahoma. And more and more media organizations are unionizing to fight back against attempts by billionaires to control the news we see.

I'm proud to stand with the unions of NYC, and I hope you are too. I hope you are having a wonderful Labor Day, spent with friends and loved ones and that you are able to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices so many union organizers have made for the rights we enjoy today.

Best,
Nydia
