Hawaiʻi Republican Party Calls for Transparency, Accountability, and Meaningful Government Reform Following Grand Jury Indictments


HONOLULU, Hawaiʻi — The Hawaiʻi Republican Party is deeply concerned by the grand jury indictments announced today involving Lieutenant Governor Sylvia Luke, former Department of Human Services Director Ryan Yamane, and others.


“These are extremely serious allegations that are sure to exacerbate the dwindling public confidence in Hawaiʻi’s government which is already at a critical low,” says HRP State Chair Shirlene Ostrov. “The people of Hawaiʻi deserve complete transparency regarding how taxpayer dollars are spent, how public contracts are awarded, and whether those entrusted with public office are being held to the highest ethical standards, and the Hawaiʻi Republican Party remains committed to advancing reforms that strengthen government transparency, improve fiscal accountability, increase public oversight, protect whistleblowers, and ensure that those entrusted with taxpayer dollars remain accountable to the people they serve.”


This is not simply a legal matter, it is a test of public trust and the result of one party’s dominance in Hawai’i government that spans decades.


As Primary Election ballots are being actively returned, the Hawai’i Republican Party asks Hawai’i voters to carefully considered their options, weigh the ramifications of maintaining the status quo, and cast their vote for the change and balance Hawai’i so desperately needs — now, and for our future.
