Donna Jean Danna, wife of Harris County Sheriff candidate, dies at 66


The wife of Harris County Sheriff candidate Joe Danna, died suddenly at home in Houston. Donna Jean Danna, the wife of Harris County Sheriff candidate, died at the couple’s home in Houston on Thursday night. She was 66.

Early reports indicate that the cause of death was a massive heart attack.


Mrs. Danna grew up in Pasadena, TX and worked in education for over two decades. She and Mr. Danna married in 1972 and had three daughters, Jill 38, Monica 41, and Kailey 11. She was a dedicated mother and spent as much free time as she had volunteering at her daughters’ schools.

Her husband entered the Harris County Sheriff’s race December 2019. On Thursday, Mr. Danna called this a time of profound grief and heartbreak.


“As my daughters and I attempt to move forward in this world without Donna, we thank God for the gift of her life and love. We are experiencing profound grief and heartbreak, and will continue to do so for some time. There was no one like Donna. She was the love of my life and my biggest supporter,” Danna said.

Joe Danna is a Master Peace Officer who has spent nearly three decades in Harris County law enforcement. He has worked in every division of the Constable’s Office and has extensive experience coordinating law enforcement efforts with the FBI, HPD, HCSO and TXDOT. He volunteers his time with Toastmasters in Texas Prisons.

Danna was born in Harris County, one of 9 siblings (8 sisters, 1 brother). Harris County is his home. It’s where he worked his first paper route at 9 years old, where he started a business, and where he and his wife raised their children.
