“Industry is the ceaseless piracy of the rich against the poor.”
― Emma Goldman

Hi John!

This past week, our chapter voted to formally endorse Bernie Sanders for president! We'll be working directly with the local Sanders campaign as we gear up for the 2020 primaries (see below for details on our next Electoral Working Group call). We also continued our tabling efforts for Medicare for All, tended our community garden, and practiced with our marching band!

In Solidarity,
Your SV DSA Newsletter Team 🌹

Silicon Valley DSA is your local chapter of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). We're a nationwide movement organizing for democratic socialism.

** Calls to Action
------------------------------------------------------------
This weekend we have tons of ways for you to help out!

📋 September 7: Tabling for Medicare for All at the Berryessa Flea Market 📋
We're building support for this key piece of legislation! Sign up for a shift between 10:30am and 3:30pm here ([link removed]) . Newbies welcome - if it's your first time, just let us know on the form and we'll give you a short training before you start your shift. More details here ([link removed]) .

💻 September 8: Expose Fake Pregnancy Clinics 💻
Join us at the Redwood City Library anytime between 1:00pm and 4:00pm, where we'll use our Posting Powers to review anti-choice Crisis Pregnancy Centers on sites like Yelp. After all, wouldn't you want to know that a "medical center" routinely lied about birth control methods and abortions? More details here ([link removed]) .

🥾 September 8: Amah Mutsun Tribal Band Walk for Juristac 🥾
Join members of the Amah Mutsun tribe as they walk 5 miles from Mission San Juan Bautista to the eastern edge of Juristac - the sacred land currently threatened by a proposed quarry. The walk starts at 1:00pm, and dinner will be provided. Please RSVP here ([link removed]) (more details at the same link).

** Fall Chapter Meeting
------------------------------------------------------------

In two weeks, we're going Back to (Organizing) School! Join us September 14 from noon to 5:00pm for trainings on important organizing skills: canvassing, tabling, facilitation, and more! Then we'll get to put all of our new awesome skills to practice on our working groups' projects! We'll provide the food (and childcare for any parent-students). Please RSVP here ([link removed]) to help with planning, and to sign up for some volunteer roles like set up, clean up, etc. More details here ([link removed]) .

* A DSAer who is interested in helping our DSA chapter coordinate with a specific YDSA chapter or two as a liaison

While this meeting is in Palo Alto, our working group is chapter-wide and we’ll be discussing our work across Silicon Valley, so members from both branches are welcome. If you can’t make it in person, we will also have a Zoom call-in option.

** Medicare For All Tabling
------------------------------------------------------------
September 7 at 10:30 am - 3:30 pm
Details ([link removed]) .

We are continuing public outreach with the Santa Clara County Single Payer Health Care Coalition in support of Medicare For All, keeping the pressure on Congresswoman Anna Eshoo to sign on to HR 1384 and having a hearing in the Healthcare Subcommittee.

Join activists from the Bay Area as we work to expose Crisis Pregnancy Centers for what they really are — FAKE abortion clinics that exist for the sole purpose of scaring women out of having abortions. At this Review-A-Thon we will attack through social media by posting truthful, honest reviews so the public will know that these are not medical offices and that they cannot be trusted.

** Chapter Committee Meeting
