Folks – The House just passed the Deliver for America Act to save the United States Postal Service.
The House convened an emergency session to pass this bill, which would prohibit the USPS from changing operations or levels of service from those that were in effect at the start of 2020. It also stops post office closures, cuts to overtime pay, and service changes that would delay mail delivery.
Because even though Postmaster General Louis DeJoy claimed that planned service changes would be on hold until after Election Day, he is refusing to reverse any already-implemented cuts – the same cuts that continue to slow down mail delivery and have allowed for the removal of mailboxes and sorting machinery.
We need to act NOW to prevent the Trump administration from further sabotaging the postal service – and the November election along with it. The USPS is a critical institution that could make or break this mostly mail-in election.
And even beyond November, we must protect the USPS so it can continue to provide essential services to millions of Americans, including veterans and those with limited mobility who need access to important goods like medicine, food, and paychecks.
