** HAPPY ISLAMIC NEW YEAR
------------------------------------------------------------

Today marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1442, called the Hijri. The word ‘Hijri’ originated from ‘Hijra,’ which means migration in the Arabic language. It refers to the time when Prophet Mohammed made his journey from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD. This particular occasion resulted in the establishment of the first Muslim community based on Islamic teachings. Hence, it is considered the beginning of the Islamic era and celebrated as Hijri New Year.

Our New Year comes at a time when there are so many uncertainties faced by our communities. As we are trying to keep the coronavirus at bay, many of us are feeling the brunt of its adverse economic and social effects.

That's why the work of MCN continues to be so critical and important. As families prepare for the beginning of the school year, MCN is dedicated to ensuring that our communities get tested and have access to resources that will protect their safety. We are partnering with our interfaith partner, Korean Community Services to help bring the city's Test & Trace services to the Muslim community. Go and get tested!

MCN is gearing up for the election season as well. We're proud to announce our #MillionMuslimVotes Youth Ambassadors who will ensure that youth voter participation is high during the elections. Be sure to check out their bios below. Our hotline continues to draw hundreds of calls each week - demonstrating the continuous need for support from our communities. Check out our latest report for August.

We are dedicated to ensuring that we respond to their needs, but we cannot do it without your support. A big shout out to two of our newest donors, Islamic Relief and the New York Women's Foundation for your support of our effort.

Be sure to check out our upcoming events! And please, don't hesitate to make a kind donation to help support our efforts.

With Gratitude,

Aniqa Nawabi
Executive Director
