Hi John,
There’s an urgent battle being fought over the right to vote -- and voters are losing.

Since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, we’ve seen the alarming return of Jim Crow-era voter suppression tactics across the country.

36 states now have voter ID laws, which disproportionately disenfranchise Black and Brown Americans at the ballot box. Hundreds of polling places have been closed across the South, and millions of voters have been purged from rolls -- oftentimes without their knowledge.

And now, when vote-by-mail is more important than ever, the president has openly admitted that he is sabotaging the U.S. Postal Service -- which recently warned 46 states and the District of Columbia that voters’ mail ballots may not arrive in time to be counted.

The effect of this voter suppression will be to consolidate power in the hands of the few -- namely, the Republicans who have seen their political party hijacked by white Christian nationalists. They don’t want a multiracial, multicultural voting bloc. They’d prefer only their vocal minority of supporters have the ability to vote -- because they know that’s the only way they can maintain their stranglehold on our government.

This is how a democracy dies.

We’re pushing back every single day. We already passed (with your support) the Voting Rights Advancement Act in the House of Representatives -- crucial legislation that would put a stop to voter suppression and ensure every eligible American can have their voice heard in our elections.

But Mitch McConnell and his Republican allies have refused to bring the bill to a vote in the Senate -- because it would go explicitly against their goal of consolidating control of our country in their hands. That’s why we’re redoubling our efforts to counter their destructive agenda, protect this election, and save our democracy.

We are demanding that Mitch and the GOP hold an immediate vote on the VRAA. But we can’t lobby as effectively for progressive legislation if we don’t smash every single one of our fundraising goals.

And right now, we’re falling short.

We desperately need your support. If we want to pass meaningful legislation at the federal level, we need major resources. The ideals behind our movement are sound. But they mean nothing if we don’t act -- and, with the urgent deadline we (and our country) are facing, we need to act now.

Please help us close our fundraising gap and protect American Democracy. We need another $2,500 before midnight -- and we promise every dollar you give will support our mission to advance progressive legislation like the Voting Rights Act. We can’t save our country without you. ([link removed])

We cannot thank you enough for all that you’re doing to keep the powerful elite from remaking this country in their image.
