** Smart Move: email your MP about the fuel price crisis
------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Supporter

Did you know, transport accounts for three quarters of total UK oil consumption?

To address issues of energy security and the rising cost of fuel, the Government must make it easier for people to travel more efficiently.

Cars with one or two people inside are not an efficient way to move. Trains, buses and trams, walking, wheeling and cycling, and shared transport - all of these use less fuel. Many of us would like to use them more often. But in too many places, they aren't good enough.

Let's campaign for change. Using our quick form, you can email your MP calling for the most energy-efficient modes of transport to be prioritised. That means improving public transport, making it accessible and affordable. It means creating more safe, pleasant routes to walk and cycle, and making shared transport available to all.

And to speed up improvements, let's call for a national mode shift target. That is, a target for a percentage of journeys to be made by efficient, sustainable transport by a set date. Wales, Scotland, London and Manchester already have mode shift targets. And indeed, the Government promised to set one in its pre-election plan for the railways.

Now is the time when the Government should be pulling out all the stops to improve public transport, walking, wheeling, cycling and shared transport. Not only will this help people struggling with the cost of living, it will have many other benefits, including reducing carbon emissions to help tackle climate change.

Thanks and very best wishes

Michael
