INTRODUCING A NEW LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL ON POLICE FUNDING

On Tuesday I announced a new legislative proposal to discourage the defunding of law enforcement in Texas. Under this plan

, any city that defunds their police department will have their property tax revenue capped at current levels.

Defunding the police puts Texans in danger and invites lawlessness into our communities.

Cities that endanger their residents should not be able to turn around and raise more taxes from those same Texans.

County judges have never had control over how local school districts open. School openings are at the discretion of locally elected school boards.

No county judge has any authority whatsoever over the ability schools, public or private, to be able to open.



REQUESTING A DISASTER DESIGNATION FOR THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY

Last week, I requested

a disaster designation from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for eight counties in the Rio Grande Valley directly impacted by Hurricane Hanna.

This federal funding from USDA will assist Texas agriculture producers affected by severe weather and flooding.



DIRECTING TWC TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL LOST WAGE ASSISTANCE

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has applied for additional unemployment funding through the Lost Wage Assistance program. If granted, this funding will provide an additional $300 per week for qualifying Texans across the state.
