Recently there have been alarming modifications in service and operations at the United States Postal Service (USPS). Removals of mailboxes and mail sorting machines around the country have been troubling for many small business owners, which make up 99.7% of employer-firms in the United States. The American Sustainable Business Council stands with all small businesses which rely on the service the USPS provides as a crucial part of their business planning. In 2019, the USPS reported that 70% of businesses with 10 employees or less used the post office in the last six months of that year and more than half of these microbusinesses said they ship with the post office most frequently. Because the USPS provides a necessary public good, the American Sustainable Business Council is calling on its membership to join us in demanding the necessary steps be taken to restore and uplift the USPS during this important time. The USPS is also a critical institution for election voting, a bedrock of American democracy and a healthy economy, most especially important during an election year amid a health crisis. Therefore, the ASBC is calling on the Postmaster General and the USPS Board of Governors to ensure that mailboxes that were removed are replaced, mail sorting machines are returned in good condition and that the USPS immediately halts any other operational “reforms” permanently. | |
