The left escalates the fight over the U.S. Postal Service -- and House GOP leaders respond in open letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"Top Republicans penned a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Oversight and Reform Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney demanding that they 'stop promoting irresponsible and baseless conspiracy theories about the U.S. Postal Service.' The letter comes after USPS leaders were doxed and had protesters show up at their homes." (Townhall)

• What's happening: Three top House Republicans spoke out after the Postmaster General faced protestors at his home last weekend. (You can see videos of the protest here.)

Leadership of the U.S. Postal Service, including the Postmaster General, were "doxxed," which means their personal contact information was published online.

The House GOP leaders published their letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. You can read it for yourself here.

• What's at stake: The Postmaster General announced he won't make any service changes ahead of the 2020 election. But you can bet that won't be enough for the left.

The left wants Americans to believe that President Trump is taking over the Post Office for political ends. But the story just doesn't match reality.

(1) As House GOP leaders noted, the U.S. Postal Service's streamlining plan started in 2011, under the Obama Administration. The Obama Administration removed "thousands" of mailboxes without a complaint from Democrats.

(2) The Democrats' last-minute legislation for the U.S. Postal Service will reportedly stop the Postal Service form making changes that weren't in place on January 1, 2020.

So Democrats want the American people to believe that President Trump is (1) simultaneously "destroying" the postal service and (2) the solution is to roll back to previous Trump Administration policies from January.

It's almost like it's not about President Trump or his Administration at all!

(3) Here's a good overview of what's happening on this issue:

-- 6 myths about the Postal Service and the election debunked (The Federalist)

Bottom line: we think that the left has had a difficult time re-writing vote-by-mail rules through the courts (remember: last month a Democratic super PAC dropped its challenge in Florida), so now they are the ones trying to "politicize" the U.S. Postal Service.

• What else to know: The Postmaster General will testify before the Senate Homeland and Government Affairs Committee tomorrow morning at 9am Eastern. We assume most TV news networks will carry at least part of it.

The big lie of the Democratic National Convention: trust us; we're moderates.

"It is true that Biden has avoided the most extreme and easily attacked versions of progressive proposals, whether the 'Green New Deal,' 'Medicare for All,' or defunding the police. But Biden is to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s left on most domestic questions. Bernie Sanders and others shifted the Overton window of Democratic politics, and Biden moved to stay smack in the middle of it." (POLITICO)

• What's happening: The real goal of the Democratic National Convention is to hide how far to the left the party -- and Joe Biden -- have moved.

Although Biden is sure to deliver a centrist-sounding speech tonight, his policies are drawn from the progressive left wing. Glossing over that inconvenient truth is the real goal of the convention this week.

• What's at stake: As Emily Jashinsky at The Federalist noted, the Democratic National Convention has been able to seem moderate because progressives aren't able to protest in-person. There's no live audience, and the speakers are dispersed across America.

As Jashinsky wrote at The Federalist: "Without a crowd to boo and protest—as Bernie Sanders supporters did in 2016—the party has been able to craft a centrist charade targeted precisely at the Obama-Trump swing voters in key states they need to persuade."

That's a similar point to one that was made yesterday about how the Democrats have presented an entirely different tone than their base.

And as Jim Geraghty at National Review noted: "A party that doesn’t usually overflow with respect for flyover country and red states suddenly speaks fondly of small-town America. Sunny optimism abounds. The American flag, sometimes considered jingoistic and a little gauche in some Democratic circles, is ubiquitous again."

In other words: the Biden campaign and party leadership are heading in one direction in front of the American public ... while planning to go another way entirely behind the scenes.

That's reinforced by stories, like this one, of Democratic delegates dropping "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance before their caucus meetings.

• What else to know: Before Biden's acceptance speech tonight, major speakers include his male Democratic primary opponents (Buttigieg, Booker, Bloomberg, and Yang) as well as top VP contender Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Report: TV networks concerned about airtime for President Trump at the GOP convention next week.

"Networks are airing the Democratic National Convention only in snippets and recaps, allowing most of the event viewership to go to online streaming platforms [...] The decision, according to the Daily Beast, was a deliberate one, designed to prevent President Donald Trump from commanding a full two hours of prime time network broadcasting every day next week, during the Republican National Convention." (Daily Wire)

• What's happening: According to the Daily Beast, TV networks chose to air just small selections from the Democratic National Convention this week -- leaving the full event to livestream services -- in order to avoid airing all of the Republican National Convention next week. Under current law, TV networks must offer the "same amount of airtime" to both.

• What's at stake: We don't think viewership of the Republican National Convention will suffer. The Trump campaign has been running its own online broadcasts for weeks.

But, if the reports are true, we think it's worth noting how hostile the TV networks must be toward President Trump and the Republican National Committee to make this move.

• What else to know: This spring, Newsbusters found that ABC, NBC, and CBS evening news broadcasts were 9X more negative about President Trump than Biden.

CNN Anchor: "Is it possible that the Republican Party is now the party of deranged bigots?"

"CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked former Republican Pennsylvania Rep. Charlie Dent whether the Republican Party had become 'the party of deranged bigots.' Dent made an appearance Wednesday on The Lead, joining Tapper to officially endorse former Vice President Joe Biden and discuss the state of politics going into the 2020 presidential election." • What's happening: Well, we think this one speaks for itself.

In an interview with former Congressman Charlie Dent, CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked, "Is it possible, congressman, is it possible that the Republican Party is now the party of deranged bigots and there isn’t a place in it any longer for a Charlie Dent?" Dent is a moderate Republican.

• What's at stake: We can't wait to see their coverage of the 2020 Republican National Convention -- and the election beyond that!
