Sanitizer for polling sites

Anhueser-Busch recently announced that it will be donating 8 million ounces of sanitizer to help keep voters safe. They will be distributing the brewed hand sanitizers to voting sites across the country ahead of Election Day. In Central New York, beer distributor T.J. Sheehan is using its distribution expertise to get the 8-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer to their destination.

The chemistry of sour beer

If you are a fan of the complex flavors of tart beer you’ll want to read this. Teresa Longin, a professor of chemistry at the University of Redlands in California, is presenting new research at the American Chemical Society on the chemistry behind sour beer.

How unemployment benefits are affecting consumer spending

In July, when the federal government aid of $600 each week to unemployed workers came to an end, it was unclear how it would impact consumer spending. According to a report from market research firm IRI, after enhanced unemployment benefits, consumers reined in their grocery spending on most categories, except for beverage alcohol. Grocery items that saw the biggest declines were frozen dinners and cookies.

How climate change will impact beer

Colleen Doherty, an associate professor of molecular and structural biochemistry at NC State University, says beer will end up tasting different in the future, because the ingredients themselves are changing. Specifically, beer won’t taste the same due to the effects of changing global temperatures on hops and other components of beer.
