Hi John,
“I’m rushing it. I am. I’m pushing everybody.”
That’s Donald Trump, telling Geraldo Rivera about the pressure he’s putting on health officials to approve a vaccine before Election Day and admitting it “wouldn’t hurt” his chances at another four years in power if a cure arrived sometime before the first week of November.
The only problem? A cure is nowhere near ready -- and now doctors are worried they’ll be forced to sign off on an unfinished and unsafe vaccine. Dr. Paul Offit, who sits on the FDA’s vaccine advisory committee, put his fears simply to CNN: “I don't trust this administration and people's ability to turn themselves into pretzels to please Trump.”
We don’t trust this administration either. Trump has already rerouted public health data from the CDC to the White House, and now he’s fast-tracking an unproven vaccine just to win a political campaign. We won’t stand by while scientists are sidelined -- and we won’t accept any “cure” they haven’t thoroughly tested. If you’re with us, make your voice heard now:
Should scientists have the final say on vaccine approval?
Thank you for your input -- we couldn’t do the work we do without you.
