Fact-Checking the Facts

What to Know: CNN couldn’t find anything in President Trump’s recent speech on the nation’s environmental achievements to find false in its “fact-check.” Here’s just one example.

“Trump said the US is ranked "number one" in the world in ‘access to clean drinking water,’” CNN reported. “Facts First: This is correct. The US is tied for first with nine other countries, according to the 2018 version of the Environmental Performance Index developed by Yale University, Columbia University and the World Economic Forum. The other countries are Canada, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain.”

The TPPF Take: The administration’s numbers are correct.

“As usual, reporters and pundits are trying their best to undermine the Trump administration—but the facts about America’s environmental leadership are unassailable,” said TPPF’s Jason Isaac. “We’re leading the world in clean air and number one in the world for clean water, all while becoming the largest energy producer in the world. These numbers are proof that economic growth and environmental quality go hand in hand.”

Freedom on Demand

What to Know: The U.S. will soon dominate the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market.

“Since the U.S. shale revolution took flight in 2008, natural gas production has soared 60% to nearly 90 billion cubic feet per day,” writes Jude Clemente for Forbes. “…We are also giving buyers more options to disengage from undemocratic nations that regularly infringe on human rights. Russia and the Middle East, for instance, hold a combined 60% of proven global gas reserves. Buyers aligning closely with these suppliers will cause global geopolitical headaches for us - or far worse.”

The TPPF Take: More LNG exports is good news for Texans—and the U.S., and the world.

“As the U.S. ramps up exports of oil and liquefied natural gas, we’re not just exporting energy,” says TPPF’s Kathleen Hartnett White. “Providing cheap, reliable energy to other countries means we’re exporting freedom and prosperity. The abundant energy that is fueling our economic boom will benefit other countries, as well.”

The Texas Miracle

What to Know: Former Texas Public Policy Foundation President and CEO Brooke Rollins, who is now at the White House, spoke with the Daily Signal’s podcast about TPPF’s role in conservative victories in Texas and the U.S.

“Seeing that play out in Texas, and seeing the model that Texas became for conservative ideas and for what less taxes and more freedom means for everyone, and especially those at the bottom of the economic ladder, was really a gift,” says Rollins. “And so now, translating that to my job today has been pretty amazing.”

The TPPF Take: The leadership of Brooke Rollins changed the face—and culture—of Texas.

“Brooke is an exceptional and visionary leader who has had a tremendous impact on Texas and the direction of this nation,” says TPPF’s Kevin Roberts. “She played no small part in crafting the Texas Model of low taxes, reasonable regulations and more freedom for Texas families to prosper. It’s exciting to see that model being exported to the rest of the nation.”
