Today marks 100 years since the 19th amendment was ratified. The women's suffrage movement marched, protested, and employed civil disobedience-- the fight was decades-long and arduous but resulted in one of the largest expansion of voting rights in history.
However, while the 19th amendment granted all women the right to vote, all women were still not free to exercise that right. It would be decades before Indigenous, Black, Asian, and Latinx women were able to vote, and many today are still victims of voter suppression.
I founded HER Time and wrote She Will Rise because women still haven't reached true equality.
We must continue to build on the work of our foremothers to achieve full equality for ALL women.
