Today is the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment – granting women the right to vote.

Team Estes,

Today is the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment – granting women the right to vote.

The Sunflower State has seen several firsts for women. Argonia elected the first female mayor in the United States in 1887. Kansas recognized women's right to vote in 1912, eight years before ratification of the 19th Amendment. Nancy Landon Kassebaum was the first woman to be elected to the United States Senate in her own right. And Wichita's own Susan Wagle is completing her term as President of the Kansas Senate, the first female to lead either chamber of Kansas' state legislature.

As a mother, grandmother, former teacher, and lifelong Kansan, I've talked with so many women throughout our state and listened as they've shared their values and concerns.

The things that are important to females in Kansas – respect from peers and colleagues, a healthy economy with abundant opportunities, a safe environment to raise their families, protection for the unborn and valuing life – are the same things Ron Estes fights for each day in Congress.

I've had the privilege of getting to know Ron and his family over the past decades. He's a loving husband and dedicated father of three – including two daughters. And he's never shied away from seeking the counsel of women and promoting them. He's more concerned with the competence, compassion and character of others than their chromosomes.

Today as we celebrate 100 years of the right to vote for women, I'm proud to stand with Ron Estes. We don't need identity politics, we need the wise counsel, work ethic and character of our Kansas Champion.

Sincerely,

Debbie Luper
