Dear John,
Recently, the Trump administration proposed a series of new regulations that
would drastically restrict asylum seekers from being able to find refuge in the
United States. If these proposed changes take effect, countless displaced
families could be denied asylum due to their gender, political opinions,
membership in a particular social group, or if they have traveled through
countries where COVID-19 is present.
These proposed rules come at a time when those at our border already face
extraordinary obstacles to reaching safety here in the U.S. With hearings
postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many asylum seekers have found
themselves stuck in unsanitary camps and detention centers unable to social
distance as they await their court dates.
These regulations conflict with long-standing U.S. and international law, and
we’re doing everything we can to fight back. We know this is a difficult time,
but we hope we can count on your donation to provide critical support and
advocacy for asylum seekers and refugees:
If you’re in a position to help, please make a contribution of
$18 or more right now to help asylum seekers and refugees
build new lives safe from danger and persecution.

Thousands of asylum seekers across our southern border are already struggling in
dangerous living conditions as they wait months – even years – for their court
hearings. But even so, many asylum seekers choose to stay and wait to avoid
ongoing conflicts back at home.
In recent years, the Trump administration has made regular attempts to dismantle
refugee protections that have long been an established part of our shared
American values. But HIAS will not turn our backs on asylum seekers and refugees
who have escaped unimaginable dangers to find peace and safety – and who
urgently need our support today. Our crucial work depends on the generosity of
compassionate supporters like you, so please consider making a gift for asylum
seekers and refugees today:
If you are able, please make a contribution of $18 or more
right now to help asylum seekers and refugees in their search for freedom and
safety.
