TTB Appoints Mary Ryan New Administrator

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has named Mary Ryan as its new administrator, effective August 16. Ryan had served as deputy administrator for the past nine years and has been the acting administrator following the death of longtime TTB administrator John Manfreda in May 2019.

Since the college football season is in jeopardy, the National Football League is reportedly exploring the possibility of moving some of its games to Saturdays. However, the NFL may need to seek permission from the government first. A law from the 1960’s prohibits them from broadcasting content on Friday evenings and Saturdays from September through December.

New Orleans-based chef and restaurant owner Brian Jupiter shares some of his secrets for cooking with beer in this interview with beer blog October. One tip: “I love to substitute beer and recipes that may call for a Champagne, and it's gonna give you just a different element: a yeasty and hoppy flavor profile.”

Apparently a book-lover thought the library was the perfect place to BYOB. A stash of beer and gum that dates back to the 1980s was discovered hidden behind the shelves of the mystery books section in a Walla Walla, Washington library. Five full cans of Hamm's beer and an opened pack of Godzilla Heads gum were discovered by the public library since they began renovations during the pandemic shutdown.
