Dear John,

With over 70 million forcibly displaced people around the world, and a growing
climate of hostility toward refugees and asylum seekers, our work at HIAS is
both incredibly tough and extremely vital. Yet thanks to you, we have remained
resilient in this era of tremendous challenge and change.

In 2018, we saw the rise of anti-refugee sentiment around the world, the erosion
of America’s refugee and asylum systems, a humanitarian crisis wrenching
families apart along our southern border, and the horrific attack in Pittsburgh
against Jews for standing with refugees. Thanks to your steadfast support, even
under these difficult circumstances, we succeeded in helping refugees realize
their rights and sounding a moral call for welcome.

In the 2018 Annual Report, you’ll read more about our impact together. With your
support, we helped people fleeing persecution and brutality rebuild their lives
in security and freedom by connecting them with critical assistance including
legal protection, counseling to recover from the shock of displacement, safety
from gender-based violence, and the tools to achieve financial independence.

This success against long odds was only possible with your partnership. We honor
the invaluable contribution made by each of our allies and friends, and we look
forward to growing from strength to strength this year and beyond.

With gratitude,

Team HIAS
