Hi John,
Please join Congressional candidate Nancy Goroff (NY-1), Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-8 and Co-Chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus) and Harvard Humanist Chaplain Greg Epstein in a Zoom meet and greet to help Nancy Goroff become the first newly elected nontheist to Congress. This event will be on Thursday, September 10 from 6-7pm eastern.
The Freethought Equality Fund endorsed Nancy Goroff and helped her win a very tight primary
race (on election night, June 23, Goroff was behind by 164 votes but when the final absentee ballot was counted she won by 630 votes). Now we want to redouble our efforts and help her win the general election.
The general election could be just as close as the primary. Goroff is taking on Republican incumbent Lee Zeldin who was a member of Trump's impeachment defense team and who narrowly won re-election in 2018 with just 51.5% of the vote. A s hort bio of Dr. Goroff is below, as is a link to support her campaign -- please be as generous as you can (all donations make through this link will be identified as coming from the atheist and humanist community).
Goroff's slender primary victory is a perfect example of how every vote counts and the importance of the atheist and humanist community being active in the electoral arena.
Nancy Goroff is running for Congress in the New York 1st Congressional District. For the past twenty-two years, Goroff has taught at Stony Brook University and for the past two and a half years she has served as chair of the Chemistry Department. She will bring her academic training and experience to Congress to
“trust the facts, find solutions, and work with everyone with good ideas.” Her policy priorities include: taking action to address the climate crisis, expanding access to quality affordable health care, defending reproductive rights, amending the Civil Rights Act to protect the rights of the LGBTQ community, developing innovate and good paying jobs in her district, and passing common sense gun legislation to end gun violence. Goroff identifies as a secular Jew.

Thank you for your membership and support!
Sincerely,
Ron Millar
