I am coming to you today with some big news: I’m honored to join Joe Biden in the fight for the soul of our country as the Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee.

I'm about to ask you to officially sign up to join our team, and I hope you’ll let me tell you why I’m so proud to be teaming up with Joe, and a little about what drives me each day in our fight.

My mom and dad, like so many other immigrants, came to this country for an education. Mom, from India. Dad, from Jamaica. And the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s brought them together. Some of my earliest memories are from that time: My parents being attacked by police with hoses, fleeing for safety, with me strapped tightly in my stroller.

That spirit of activism is why my mom, Shyamala, would always tell my sister and me, "Don’t just sit around and complain about things. Do something."

That’s why I became a District Attorney and fought to fix a broken system from within. Why I served as California’s Attorney General. Why I’m proud to represent my state as a U.S. Senator. And that’s why, today, I’m humbled to join Joe Biden in the battle to defeat Donald Trump and build a country that lives up to our values of truth, equality, and justice.

I’ve never been more ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work -- but Joe and I will need you in our corner too, friends. Which is why I’m asking you to commit to being in this fight alongside me:

Will you sign up to officially join our team? Joe and I may be the names at the top of the ticket, but the fight to restore the soul of our nation — the values we cherish and the truths we hold — will be won or lost by all of us. I need you with me:

I know that winning this race will be a tougher challenge than any I’ve faced in my lifetime, but make no mistake, friends: I’m not afraid of Donald Trump. I’ve been standing up to Trump, and people like him, for my entire career.

He’s tried to rip health care away from Americans, but I’ve fought to defend the Affordable Care Act.

He founded a for-profit college that scammed students out of their dreams, I sued for-profit schools to hold them accountable.

He’s a serial predator. I’ve spent my career putting them away.

He’s given tax breaks to big corporations, but I won $20 billion for homeowners across California who’d been defrauded. I took on that fight alongside Beau Biden, who was an incredible friend and colleague. There were times when we talked every day, sometimes multiple times a day. And although Beau left us far too soon, I knew him to be a man of principle and courage, just like his dad. I saw him practice what Joe had taught him: Dignity and decency — and putting your family and your country above everything else.

Donald Trump thinks this country belongs to him. But Joe Biden knows it belongs to all of us. To the people. Together, the people are going to take it back — but only if every single person on this team steps up to join Joe and me in our campaign:

Please sign up to officially join me as I work alongside Joe Biden to fight for an America that works on behalf of all it’s people. I couldn't be prouder to be joining the ticket today as the Democratic Vice Presidential Nominee, and I’m counting on you to be a part of this race too.
