Dear Jack,

I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy during these difficult times. I'll be sending weekly Bulletins so that you have all the latest updates you need.

COVIDWISE App

Last week, Governor Northam launched COVIDWISE, an innovative exposure notification app for Virginia that can notify you if you've had close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19. It works by generating random Bluetooth keys that change every 10 to 20 minutes, and then notifying you if someone you've been in contact with for 15 minutes enters a positive test result. Once notified, you would be able to schedule a test and self-isolate. You can read more about how it works here.

The more people download and use this app, the more effective it will be. I've downloaded it myself, and I highly encourage you to do the same.

Download COVIDWISE on App Store or Google Play

Eviction Moratorium

On Friday, the Virginia Supreme Court granted Governor Northam's request for a temporary eviction moratorium in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The moratorium begins tomorrow, Monday, August 10th, and lasts through Monday, September 7th. Many families have been struggling to stay current on their rent due to job losses and reductions in work hours, and our first priority has to be keeping people in their homes. You can read more about the moratorium here.

SB745

On Tuesday, we had our first virtual bill signing event for my bill SB745, which exempts totally and permanently disabled veterans from state income taxes on their forgiven student loan debt. I'm deeply grateful and honored that my first bill signing as Senator is for this important bill, which will help to alleviate the financial burden for families who have already sacrificed so much for our country.
