I hate to say it, but AI isn’t going away. Data centers are coming.
The real question is whether Pennsylvania families will pay the price.
Right now, without strong rules in place:
- Utilities can raise your rates to cover the cost of powering these data centers — even if you never use AI,
- Massive development projects can move forward without residents buy in and before communities are prepared, and
-
Developers will significantly increase demand on an already aging and stressed energy grid.
We’re fighting to change that.
CVPA is working alongside our allies and activists to put guardrails in place as quickly as possible including common-sense reforms that:
- Block utilities from shifting costs onto ratepayers while they make record profits
-
Require data centers to bring their own renewable energy to the grid instead of increasing demand on an already stressed system
- Give local communities the tools to decide what gets built and where.
These are real, practical first steps.
But passing them requires growing and sustained pressure — especially in the State Senate, where progress stalls.
And this fight is moving fast.
In communities like mine in the Lehigh Valley, massive data centers are already being proposed just steps from schools and neighborhoods.
Developers aren’t waiting. Utilities aren’t waiting. And we can’t afford to either.
Make a contribution today to help us protect Pennsylvania families, defend our communities, and make sure Big Tech pays its fair share.
