SIGN ON NOW: Require all federal officers wear identification! >>
I'll be honest, when I took an oath to support and defend the constitution I never thought the biggest threat would be the person in the Oval Office.
But, the Trump Administration has constantly threatened, pushed, and eviscerated democratic boundaries. One of the most egregious acts we’ve seen is the recent deployment of unidentified federal officers to quell peaceful protests across the nation, often without consent from local authorities.
Quite simply, this is an unacceptable step towards authoritarianism. And I’ve already taken the first step to fix it -- I’m proud to say that I, along with some of my colleagues in the House, have introduced legislation that requires officers to clearly identify their name and agency when policing first amendment assemblies. Will you join me in fighting for our democratic values and demanding Congress pass this bill immediately? >>
The right to safely speak out and protest is core to our democracy -- but the videos we’ve seen of federal officers in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles arresting protesters have no place in a free society. When federal officers are unidentified that means local officials, protesters, and others have no way to hold these officers accountable for their actions or verify that they are federal law enforcement.
I’m working hard to end this practice for good and protect the rights of all Americans. But I can’t do it alone -- getting this bill passed will require a movement. So, can I count on you to sign on to my bill as a citizen cosponsor and demand Congress act NOW?
We can’t let Trump continue to bully our protesters who are demanding civil rights. So, thanks so much for taking action team!
