Dear John,
Last month's Supreme Court rulings empowered states and employers to place additional restrictions on access to reproductive health care. While the ripple effects of that decision are still emerging, at IWPR, we are using our voice and our research to support women's reproductive rights and socioeconomic well-being.
Reproductive and sexual health care services are critical for women pursuing postsecondary education. Our research shows access to contraception may have enabled more than 250,000 women to attain bachelor's degrees by the year 2000.
As postsecondary education becomes increasingly important for today's workers, with more than 60 percent of jobs requiring college degrees, community colleges offer an affordable pathway for students to achieve postsecondary credentials.
Our latest report describes findings around promising programs and practices that community colleges can use to help meet their students’ sexual and reproductive health needs.
Promising Practices to Promote Student Success
Our new report discusses the importance of expanding sexual and reproductive health care access and education for student success, shares challenges to and opportunities for doing so, and describes strategies that have been successful or hold promise for advancing health services for community college students. We conclude by offering recommendations for increasing attention to community college students’ access to sexual and reproductive health supports as a part of holistic student support efforts.
