The Voting Rights Act of 1965 made discriminatory voting practices illegal and ensured that Black Americans and other voters of color weren't blocked from the ballot box.

This act worked to ensure our right to vote — until the Supreme Court gutted it in 2013.

Since then, GOP voter suppression has run rampant. States are using strict voter ID laws, purging voters from voter rolls, and closing polling locations to make it harder for people of color to vote.

The late John Lewis put his life at risk to give all Americans the right to vote. We need to honor John Lewis’s legacy and prepare for the most important election in our lifetimes.
