As the Campaign kicks off for Dr. Mike Goldstein for Congress [ [link removed] ], we have been keeping you informed of all the issues affecting Connecticut and our nation. It is important to know that a federal seat for Connecticut is not state specific.
As a nation, America cannot remain strong, prosperous, or secure without reliable and affordable energy. Yet across the Northeast, families and businesses are facing some of the highest electricity costs in the United States, largely due to misguided energy policies that have reduced supply while demand continues to grow. Affordability in Connecticut starts with electricity and CT’s Public Benefits are hitting CT residents and business owners.
Time for the Nuclear Option
On Friday, Mike Lawler hosted U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, leaders from Holtec International, and regional officials at the site of the former Indian Point Energy Center to discuss the future of nuclear power in the Hudson Valley.

Congressman Lawler is right to focus attention on restoring reliable energy production in our region.
The closure of Indian Point removed nearly two gigawatts of reliable, carbon-free electricity from the grid — power that supported millions of homes and helped stabilize the regional energy market.
The consequences have been immediate: higher prices, tighter supply, and greater pressure on surrounding states like Connecticut.
Why Connecticut Should Be Concerned
Connecticut has Millstone Power Station — the single most important energy facility in Connecticut. Operated by Dominion Energy, Millstone provides:
• About 50% of Connecticut’s electricity
• Over 90% of Connecticut’s carbon-free power
Connecticut once had three nuclear reactors. Today it relies on just two.
If Connecticut were ever to lose a major nuclear facility like Millstone, the impact would be immediate:
• Electricity prices would surge
• Grid reliability would weaken
• Businesses would leave the region
• Families would face even higher utility bills
The lesson from New York is clear: prematurely closing reliable power plants without realistic replacements is a costly mistake. We also cannot rely on offshore windmills to guarantee energy generation.
The Northeast Energy Security Initiative
As part of the Goldstein for Congress campaign [ [link removed] ], we are proposing a regional strategy to restore energy reliability and affordability across Connecticut and New York.
The Northeast Energy Security Initiative will focus on five priorities:
1. Protect and Expand Nuclear Energy
Protect existing plants like Millstone Power Station while supporting the development of next-generation nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors.
2. Repurpose Strategic Energy Sites and Use alternate Nuclear Generation
Support the repurposing of sites like Indian Point Energy Center for advanced nuclear development and clean baseload power. We will also work to repurpose our nuclear submarines for energy generation as 3 of them are equal to the proposed energy of Revolution Wind and will create great state and federal jobs in Connecticut.
3. Restore an “All-of-the-Above” Energy Strategy
End the political war on energy production and allow responsible development of nuclear, natural gas, hydropower, and emerging technologies.
4. Strengthen the Regional Grid
Coordinate planning between Connecticut, New York, and New England to ensure grid stability and prevent energy shortages and repeal legislation that gives the Governor of New York veto power on the expansion of natural gas pipelines so desperately needed in Connecticut.
5. Lower Energy Costs for Families and Businesses
Increase energy supply to bring down electricity prices and restore economic competitiveness in the Northeast.
Energy Security Is Economic Security
Energy policy is not an abstract debate.
It determines whether families can afford their electricity bills, whether businesses stay in Connecticut, and whether our region remains competitive.
The Northeast should not be a place where energy is scarce and expensive.
With responsible leadership and common-sense policy, Connecticut and New York can become leaders in reliable, clean, and affordable energy production.
The goal is simple:
⚡ More energy production
⚡ Stronger grid reliability
⚡ Lower electricity costs for American families (especially here in CT)
That is the mission of the Northeast Energy Security Initiative.
