March 2026
Dear Educators,
Last week, my 8th grader asked ChatGPT to solve a math problem instead of coming to me for help. My first thought? Relief—I wasn't entirely sure I remembered how to do it myself. My second thought? Concern—what exactly is AI replacing, and what are we losing in the process?
As an educator who has taught middle and high school, an online learning design expert with 25 years of experience creating digital programs—and as a mom to three teens—I've witnessed countless shifts in what technology can do for teaching and learning. But this one feels different. I watch my kids turn to AI for everything from homework help to how to bake cookies. I hear educators and school leaders scrambling to shape policies around its use. In addition to phones, gaming and social media, we now have AI added to the mix—and it's moving fast.
Like any new tool, the conversation around AI isn't only about what it can do, but how we should teach about what it can do. AI is raising significant concerns for educators and parents about the new skills needed to both understand and use this technology responsibly. Can we trust it? Some days it feels overwhelming.
That's why we're excited to share three important resources in this newsletter—and invite you to join us for a conversation.
