John, It's Becca.
I just walked out of a hearing where I questioned DHS Secretary Kristi Noem — and I want you to hear directly from me about what happened. Because what’s happening at the Department of Homeland Security right now should alarm every American who believes in the rule of law.
Last year, Secretary Noem said this in front of Congress: “We are a nation of laws. If we are not a nation of laws, we are no nation at all.”
However, if we are a nation of laws, then federal agencies must comply with court orders. That’s not optional. But recently, a federal judge appointed by George W. Bush found that Noem’s DHS violated court orders 210 times.
One judge even said ICE may have violated more court orders in January 2026 alone than some federal agencies have in their entire existence.
Yet when I asked Secretary Noem about it, she refused to acknowledge the truth. She insisted that DHS complies with all federal court orders. That simply isn’t what the courts are saying.
If you want to see leaders like Kristi Noem held accountable for this kind of lawlessness, will you click here and chip in to help fuel the fight today? [[link removed]]
In one case involving an attempted deportation, a judge ruled that DHS officials engaged in an “ unconstitutional conspiracy ” and failed in their duty to protect the Constitution. And when testimony from ICE leadership was examined, the court rejected it as “ disingenuous, squalid, and dishonorable .”
So I asked the obvious question: If someone lied to a federal judge, were there consequences? Was anyone held accountable? Secretary Noem’s answer was no. And that’s when I told her exactly what the American people deserve to hear.
I said, “I want you to know that Americans will get accountability for the damage that you have done, for the lawlessness of aspects of DHS, for killing innocent Americans, for terrorizing children, they will get accountability.”
And I meant every single word. Because nobody is above the law. Not the President. Not the Secretary of Homeland Security. Not anyone working in their agencies.
HELP HOLD KRISTI NOEM ACCOUNTABLE TODAY! [[link removed]]
I left her with this: “You are the Secretary of DHS…. for now. You think you’re immune from accountability, but one day he will not be president anymore. When that day comes, we will still be here, and we will still be seeking accountability.”
Because I didn’t run for Congress to stay quiet when people in power break the law. Whether it’s Kristi Noem, Pam Bondi, or Donald Trump — I will keep asking the hard questions and demanding accountability.
So if you believe someone needs to stand up and speak the truth in rooms like that hearing today, I’m asking for your support today. Chip in $5 or anything you can to help me keep fighting for accountability and the rule of law. [[link removed]]
This work isn’t easy. But Vermonters sent me to Congress to speak plainly, stand up for our values, and protect the people who are too often ignored or targeted by those in power.
That’s exactly what I intend to keep doing.
Thanks for always having my back,
— Becca
