NBWA Releases July Beer Purchasers' Index

Beer distributors around the country are reacting to significant changes in consumer demand and working to meet unprecedented challenges in the marketplace. In new data released today, the total Beer Purchasers' Index for July 2020 dropped to 70.5 from last month's all-time high mark of 81, though it is still above last year's July reading of 64.7. NBWA Chief Economist Lester Jones explained, "Beer distributors continue to take an aggressive stance in their ordering to minimize out-of-stocks in the marketplace during the hot summer months of 2020."

Coca-Cola launching Topo Chico hard seltzer

Coca-Cola is using the well-loved Topo Chico brand, which it acquired in 2017, to enter the hard seltzer market. Coca-Cola announced it will launch Topo Chico Hard Seltzer in Latin American cities later this year and it will debut in the U.S. in 2021. The hard seltzer will be Coca-Cola’s first foray into alcohol in the United States since divesting its Wine Spectrum business in 1983.

Two craft breweries unveil beers for their NBA home teams

Deschutes and Jack’s Abby are rooting for their NBA teams by launching branded beers. Deschutes Brewery in Oregon will release Rip City Lager in partnership with the Portland Trail Blazers. Massachusetts-based Jack’s Abby Craft Lagers announced a four-year partnership with the Boston Celtics that includes the release of Pride and Parquet Hoppy Lager. Beer and sports are always a great pairing, especially if you add in some home team pride.
