Friends --
As we ramp up efforts to invest early in progressive women candidates, I am thrilled to announce that I am joining the Matriarch team as their National Organizing Director.
Matriarch is a coalition of progressive women dedicated to recruiting and supporting progressive, working-class women and women of color running for Congress. They endorsed me early and supported me every step of the way in my recent race to represent Georgia’s 7th Congressional District.
Matriarch provides tools and strategic support to help progressive women build winning campaigns from the start.
My role will include spearheading candidate organizing and training for upcoming races, and helping Matriarch address the systemic barriers that working class women and women of color face when running for office.
We need more working class women in Congress, but to get there we need to come together to remove the barriers that keep us from running and winning. Matriarch brought me a sisterhood and a support system that I really leaned on to help me through my race. They invested in my campaign based on my values and my potential, and were an integral part of helping me build momentum. I’m proud to join their team and help send more progressive, working class women to Washington.
Join our movement!
Matriarch is working to ensure the most essential people in our economy - working class women - have the most political power. In the next few months, we will be focused on pushing the progressive movement to coalesce around women challengers in remaining primary races; Cori Bush in MO-01, Rebecca Parson in WA-05, Eva Putzova in AZ-01, and Ihssane Leckey in MA-04.
Matriarch believes that we deserve to be represented by people who are directly affected by issues like poverty, violence, and lack of healthcare. Until progressive working women are able to compete with institutionally-backed candidates, the disparity between individuals and their representatives will ever-widen.
Together, we can elect working class women to the halls of Congress where they belong.
In solidarity,
Nabilah Islam
Matriarch aims to increase the number of progressive working women in office by endorsing and providing support to progressive working class women without independent wealth and institutional connections or support. More at www.matriarchpac.com.
