This week, Senate Republicans are trying to push the SAVE Act forward.
They claim it is about election security, but the truth is our elections
are already safe and secure, and this bill is clearly about voter
suppression.
I proudly voted NO on the SAVE Act in the House because it would
disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring a passport or
birth certificate in person just to register or update your registration.
Only about half of U.S. citizens have a passport. And there are nearly 70
million married women who may not be able to present a valid birth
certificate because they changed their name. The bill would also eliminate
online voter registration across the country.
That is not protecting democracy,
John. It’s about the GOP
handpicking their voters. And it’s critical that we continue standing up
against their authoritarian tactics.
