Hi there,
Warehouses are spreading fast across Pennsylvania.
They take up huge amounts of land, drive heavy truck traffic, worsen air pollution, and use enormous amounts of energy.
But here’s the reality: once a warehouse proposal meets existing zoning rules, local officials often can’t stop it — even if residents strongly oppose it.
This is one of those “two things are true” situations. We support community efforts to block warehouses from getting built where they don’t belong. And, we want to do everything possible to reduce the harm that warehouses cause.
That’s why we’re pushing hard for the “Solar-Ready Warehouses” bill, which would make sure that warehouse roofs can support solar panels instead of sitting empty.
This commonsense bill passed through committee and is heading to the State House floor. There is a growing backlog of bills waiting for votes, and we need constituent pressure into every office to get this one moving. Take action today and urge your state representative to vote YES on House Bill 1260. [[link removed]]
Warehouses and distribution centers have some of the largest unused roof space in the state — it just makes sense to put that space to work.
Here’s what the bill does:
* Requires new warehouses and distribution centers to be built so at least 40% of their roof space is solar-ready
* Helps existing warehouses upgrade their roofs so solar can be added
* Removes unnecessary fees and local barriers that slow down rooftop solar
This bill doesn’t solve Pennsylvania’s warehouse problem — and it doesn’t pretend to. We know warehouses bring real impacts, and we will keep fighting for smarter land-use policies.
But when warehouses are built anyway, it’s common sense to reduce their harm. That means reducing both the pollution they cause and the energy they draw from the grid.
Offsetting air pollution is particularly important for Environmental Justice communities, which are often located near heavy industrial zones or highways – and warehouses.
The next step forward for the Solar-Ready Warehouse bill is getting it passed through the State House. We are so close, but we need a boost from constituents in every district to get this commonsense bill the attention it needs.
Add your voice and tell your representative to pass House Bill 1260. [[link removed]]
