Moments ago, the Trump administration eliminated the legal foundation that limits climate pollution from cars, trucks, and power plants.

This move repeals the “endangerment finding” — the scientific determination that climate pollution harms public health and our quality of life. It sounds wonky, but this finding is what gives the EPA the authority to set limits on pollution.

With it out of the way, the Trump administration has cleared the path to eliminate safeguards that cut pollution from vehicles, reduce mercury from power plants, and save lives.

Let’s be clear about what this means: Trump is trading away our health and our lives so polluters can profit even more.

Today’s announcement is just one of Trump’s steps to enrich greedy oil and gas billionaire CEOs at our expense.

Earlier this year, the administration signaled it would stop considering premature deaths and other health harms from air pollution in rulemakings. And Trump and cronies are poised to provide another handout to coal-fired power plants to allow them to continue polluting our air and water.

I can’t say this strongly enough: Trump’s action will hurt all of our families.

* Communities will be exposed to more vehicle exhaust, worsening risks of lung disease, heart disease, cancer, and premature death.
* Our kids will breathe mercury and other toxins from power plants, harming their development.
* Families will face higher energy bills, higher insurance costs, and climate-fueled disasters like extreme heat, wildfires, and superstorms.

Obviously, we cannot let this go unchecked.

As one of the country’s top energy-producing states, what we do here in Pennsylvania matters. Our decisionmakers have a choice right now – do they stand with Trump and continue to subsidize dirty oil and gas production in our state? Or do they fight these attacks with more clean energy initiatives and tougher limits on pollution?

We aren’t going to take this lying down: we’re mobilizing in urban and rural communities, using social media to educate voters, and empowering Pennsylvanians to demand better from their lawmakers so that policies protect our health — especially our kids, our seniors, and people who live closest to sources of pollution.

But we can’t do this work without your voice and your support.
