Bernie’s amendment to claw back $75 BILLION from ICE and reinvest it in
health care, protecting Medicaid for hundreds of thousands of people who
could otherwise lose coverage, just fell short by only TWO votes. And
several Republicans crossed party lines to support it.

Under Trump, ICE’s budget has exploded – pouring billions into raids,
family separations, and private, for-profit detention centers. To cover
the cost, Republicans pushed through the largest Medicaid cuts in U.S.
history last year.
The result? ICE is given a blank check to terrorize our communities and
enrich billionaires behind the deportation machine - like GEO Group and
Core Civic. All while patients skip doctor visits, ration insulin, and
flood emergency rooms because they have nowhere else to go.
Bernie’s amendment would have undone the reckless $75 billion ICE giveaway
buried in Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” and redirected those
funds to Medicaid instead.

the firewall protecting ICE’s budget is cracking. Now we have to apply the
pressure that finishes the job.
