Dear Friends—
I will never forget that March day in 2019 when I walked into 620 8th Avenue—the HQ of The New York Times—for a much-anticipated meeting with their editorial board. It had already been five years since their bombshell “Repeal Prohibition, Again”: a six-part series that parroted the worst arguments of pro-drug commentators. On that spring day, I was predictably met with sneers and disapproving stares as I talked about the fallacy of drug legalization.
That is why yesterday’s mea culpa—no less than a complete about-face, where the Times admitted their pro-marijuana position was wrong—is so MONUMENTAL. No, actually: It’s HISTORIC, GAME-CHANGING, and SEISMIC.
It shows that people are listening. And that we are winning.
