Dear friend,

Violence is escalating in Ukraine while temperatures are dropping. Tension
is rising in the Middle East as violent protests and humanitarian crises
put families at risk.

Mercy Corps is on the ground responding to the needs of innocent civilians
who are enduring war, harsh weather conditions, and instability.

Please read on to learn more
about how we’re responding in Ukraine, Gaza, and Syria — [ [link removed] ]and if you’re
ready to make your first gift to help us reach more families in need in 35+
countries, consider donating whatever you can afford right now.

Ukraine

After three full winters of constant violence, Ukraine is entering another
season with freezing temperatures and more violence.

Recent bombings have destroyed Ukraine’s energy facilities, severed its
agricultural sector, and disrupted production and exportation. Now,
millions of families are facing deepened food insecurity and are exposed
to cold weather.

"As temperatures plummet and attacks continue, the international community
must act urgently to bring a halt to attacks on critical energy
infrastructure. These attacks disproportionally impact innocent civilians,
including the farmers we work with," says Mercy Corps CEO, Tjada McKenna.

Since the full-scale war began in 2022, Mercy Corps has supported more
than 950,000 people in Ukraine and neighboring countries. We have provided
grants to farmers and distributed household items, food and hygiene kits
to civilians affected by the war.

Over 1,400 families live in the overcrowded Halawa camp, surrounded by
their destroyed homes. In addition to displacement and hunger, they’re
facing respiratory infections, hypothermia, and other preventable diseases
due to recent flooding.

The Middle East

Since the New Year, the Middle East has been experiencing turmoil, and the
safety of hundreds of thousands of families has been at risk.

In Gaza, fewer food, water, and lifesaving supplies are reaching those who
need them most due to new aid restrictions. Meanwhile, the first winter
rainstorms have inundated shelters, washed away belongings, and further
exposed families to harsh conditions.

In Lebanon, innocent civilians are enduring escalated violence as fighting
between Israel and Hezbollah escalates. And in Syria, progress to recovery
and rebuilding the country is stalling after the major political
transition last year.

Mercy Corps stands firm in the region as a force for good, delivering
lifesaving relief to families facing unimaginable hardship. To address
food insecurity in Gaza, our teams are:

• Implementing home gardening initiatives to help families grow their
own crops.
• Distributing vital supplies, including 2,434 food kits and 520,00
liters of water to ensure communities can survive.

In Syria, our team is working side-by-side with communities to restore
essential services, rebuild markets, and improve conditions for displaced
people to return home.
