Dear Delaware Democrats,
As we celebrate Black History Month, we also have a special opportunity to honor and celebrate one of Delaware’s own on her birthday, Tuesday, February 10.
This Black History Month, we celebrate Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester not only for the history she has made, but for the leadership she continues to show every day on behalf of Delaware families.
Raised in Wilmington, Lisa’s journey is deeply rooted in faith, family, and community. From her first job at McDonald’s on Market Street to her early days helping Delawareans navigate Social Security, housing, and other critical needs, she learned firsthand the dignity of work and the importance of government that shows up for people, especially in their hardest moments.
Lisa never set out to make history but history followed her dedication. In 2016, she became the first woman and first person of color to represent Delaware in Congress. Today, as Delaware’s first Black U.S. Senator, she continues to lead with purpose and compassion, fighting to lower health care costs, bring good-paying jobs home, rebuild our infrastructure, expand broadband access, protect clean air and water, defend reproductive freedom, and ensure every vote is counted.

Her leadership reflects a legacy grounded in service and resilience, shaped by a family that believed deeply in giving back and lifting others. That legacy is now carried forward in the halls of the U.S. Senate where Senator Blunt Rochester is delivering results and making Delaware proud.
As a Black woman, representation matters deeply to me. Seeing leaders like Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester, leaders who reflect our communities, our values, and our lived experiences, inspired my own decision to get involved in Delaware politics. Her leadership reminds us that when people see themselves represented, they believe more deeply in what’s possible and feel called to serve.
This Black History Month, we celebrate Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester’s trailblazing leadership, her unwavering commitment to our state, and the example she sets for future generations.
And on her birthday, we join Delawareans across our state in wishing her continued strength, joy, and success in the year ahead.
Happy Birthday, Senator and thank you for all you do for Delaware!
With pride and gratitude,
Evelyn Brady
