Dear Friend,

In this week's roundup: Sarah Root's killer was sentenced for more than 20 years in prison. We also welcomed our Iowa's National Guardsmen home and celebrated National Girls and Women in Sports Day. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week!

SARAH ROOT FINALLY RECIEVES JUSTICE

This week, the illegal immigrant who murdered 21-year-old Iowan Sarah Root has been sentenced to more than 20 years.

After the sentencing, I was in touch with both Michelle and Scott Root, the father of Sarah Root.

It has been an honor to work with Sarah’s family and help prevent this tragedy from ever happening again.

The sentencing of Sarah’s killer reinforces the simple truth: we are a nation of laws, and if you break our laws, you will be brought to justice.

I'm thankful that President Trump signed Sarah’s Law, my bill with Senator Joni Ernst, to ensure criminals who harm Americans face justice, not release.

MEETING WITH IOWA RURAL WATER ASSOCIATION

I had a great conversation with the Iowa Rural Water Association today.

We discussed key water infrastructure and regulatory issues, as well as federal funding priorities.

I will always make sure Iowa has a seat at the table in Washington.

As a former City Administrator for my hometown of Hull, I know how important Iowa's water is for our communities.

STUDENT LOAN BOND EXPANSION ACT INTRODUCED IN THE SENATE!

This week, my bill, the Student Loan Bond Expansion Act was introduced in the U.S. Senate.

I’m honored to lead this effort with my Iowa colleague, Senator Chuck Grassley

As a father of four, I know how important financial security is for families wishing to pursue a college degree.

This legislation will help states like Iowa issue more low-interest student loans through Qualified Student Loan Bonds.

PROTECTING GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS

This week was National Girls and Women in Sports Day!

I helped lead the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which passed the House. It would prevent biological males from competing in women’s sports.

In Iowa, it is common sense that men compete against men and women compete against women in sports.

MEETING WITH IOWA FARM BUREAU OF DIRECTORS

This week I met with the Iowa Farm Bureau Board of Directors.

It was great to speak with them about the critical needs for Iowa's biofuels, livestock, and crops to continue leading the nation.

We must pass a Farm Bill and continue to expand markets for our farmers!

WELCOMING BACK OUR IOWA NATIONAL GUARD!

Thank you to our Iowa National Guard soldiers!

Nearly 250 soldiers from Iowa are coming home following successful missions supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Welcome home!

MEETING WITH IOWA BANKERS ASSOCIATION

Great meeting this week with the Iowa Bankers Association!

We spoke about ACRE Act implementation and strengthening our financial institutions.

Proud to have worked with President Trump to get the ACRE Act included in the Working Families Tax Cuts—delivering real support for Iowa’s farmers and rural communities.

ONE LAST THING: MEDICARE DEADLINES TO KNOW

If you or a loved one are on Medicare, important deadlines are coming up.

Iowans enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan have until March 31, 2026, to change plans or return to Original Medicare.

Those whose plans were cancelled at the end of 2025 have until February 28, 2026, to enroll in new coverage.

Free, one-on-one help is available through Iowa’s SHIIP Program, taking a few minutes now can help ensure you have the coverage you need.

MY WEEKLY COLUMN: SARAH ROOT FINALLY RECIEVES JUSTICE

One year ago, when President Trump returned to the White House, the American people gave the federal government a mandate to restore law and order, and curb the uncontrolled flow of illegal immigration.

The President vowed to prioritize the American people, bring criminals to justice, and strengthen public safety.

This meant reversing Biden-era open border policies, that invited chaos and put unvetted illegal immigrants before the safety of the American people.
