“We have no electricity, no medicine and no fuel to reach the hospital. I used to go for check-ups every month. Now I just wait and hope nothing goes wrong,” shared Semira in Syria.
After over 14 years of war, the former Syrian government fell last December, sparking hope for a brighter future for millions of Syrians.
Now, one year later, women and girls are living in deep poverty and at heightened risk of sexual violence, while maternity hospitals have closed and medical supplies are dangerously scarce. At the same time, the need for additional support has only grown as one million refugees and another million internally displaced families have finally returned home.
Just as families began returning, devastating funding cuts forced UNFPA to scale back lifesaving services across the country, suspending care for pregnant women, survivors of violence, and children.
While the war is finally over, the destruction, loss, and trauma caused by prolonged conflict has been devastating. Without urgent support, women and girls are being left behind in their most vulnerable moments. Will you rush a gift today to deliver care in Syria and wherever help is needed most?

Women and girls fleeing recent violence receive medical support, mental health care and UNFPA Dignity Kits at mobile clinics.
For Noor, the celebration of the war ending was short-lived.
After the war ended, the one place where she felt safe — a UNFPA Safe Space — was forced to shut down. That space had been her only refuge from violence at home.
“The counselor helped me to know how to face my family, and what to do when I was subjected to physical violence. She was giving me solutions,” Noor shared with Independent reporters.
Soon after the Safe Space closed, Noor was married off to an abusive husband. She fled after just 20 days, only to return to violence at her family home once again.
Today, Noor tries to find support through a small volunteer group, but without a dedicated and secure place to meet, even that lifeline is fragile.
“We need a safe space.”
UNFPA Safe Spaces provide consistent care, counseling, and protection for women and girls facing violence and trauma. Will you send a gift today to ensure more women like Noor don’t lose access to these lifesaving services in Syria and beyond?

Unfortunately, renewed ethnic violence and instability are forcing families to flee yet again, often without access to critical aid.
The ongoing uncertainty in Syria means that this year:
• 8.5 million people will need sexual violence prevention and care services.
• 4.1 million women and girls will need access to sexual and reproductive health services.
• Over 396,000 pregnant women will need support.
UNFPA is still on the ground in Syria, providing as much care as possible. Last year alone, we reached 1.7 million women and girls thanks to gifts from generous supporters like you.
But recent funding cuts are putting access to aid at risk.
Without additional support, UNFPA’s budget in Syria will be reduced by 40% in 2026, forcing the closure of one-third of health facilities and 30 Safe Spaces for women and girls.
Women and girls in Syria are trying to rebuild their lives after years of conflict. They cannot do it alone. Please, if you're able, will you make a gift today and provide women and girls in Syria and crisis zones around the world with access to midwives, medical supplies and medicines, and UNFPA Safe Spaces?
Thank you for being there for women and girls,
