The gloves are off. MAGA said it loud and proud.

On the heels of Donald Trump openly threatening to have MAGA nationalize elections, his longtime advisor and MAGA mouthpiece, Steve Bannon, revealed Trump’s most insidious election rigging plot yet:

MAGA has declared war against free and fair elections.

For months, Defend Our Courts has warned that MAGA was plotting to rig upcoming elections by any means possible. What Bannon revealed confirms exactly the type of extreme measures that we feared: they are preparing to use federal force to interfere with voting itself.

MAGA knows it is headed for major losses if elections remain free and fair. Instead of changing course, it is choosing coercion. Instead of persuasion, it is choosing fear.

And it’s important to be clear about how this works.

In most states, the presence of law enforcement at polling places is tightly regulated—or prohibited entirely—by state law. The authority to stop voter intimidation does not come from Washington. It comes from state courts and ultimately from state Supreme Courts.

That is why MAGA’s long-term strategy has focused on capturing those courts. This is not new. This is the next phase.

Last year, Defend Our Courts helped lead the successful defense of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court—a critical firewall in the most important swing state in the country. That victory wasn’t symbolic. It protected the court that would have final say over election disputes in 2026 and beyond.

Now MAGA is escalating nationwide.

In 2026, state Supreme Court elections will take place in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia—the very states where voter intimidation would be most consequential, and where courts will be called on to intervene if MAGA follows through on its threats.

This is why Defend Our Courts exists. We saw what was coming early. We rallied over 100,000 Democrats to support our cause and built a winning model in Pennsylvania.

Now we are taking our winning formula national. With Democrats stretched thin by House and Senate races, defending democracy in the courts will not happen unless we do it.
