Hi John,
As we observe Black History Month, we honor the Black leaders, organizers, educators, artists, and visionaries who have shaped Rhode Island’s past and continue to shape its future.
Black history is Rhode Island history. It lives in our neighborhoods, our schools, our labor movement, our faith communities, and our ongoing work to expand opportunity and justice.
This month is also a reminder that progress does not happen on its own. It requires sustained commitment, equal access to opportunity, and leaders who listen deeply and act boldly. My administration remains committed to protecting civil rights, strengthening public education, and building an economy where opportunity is real and accessible for everyone.
Honoring history means continuing that work this month, and every month.
With respect,
Dan McKee
Governor of Rhode Island
