CWA Legacy T Members Reach Early Tentative Agreement With AT&T
Share This Article:
Last week, the CWA Legacy T bargaining committee sent notification to affected members that a tentative agreement (TA) had been reached with AT&T. Due to an abbreviated bargaining window, bargaining committee members met with company representatives early to create a framework for the limited negotiations. The team used extensive input from members and local officers to craft 39 union proposals to improve members’ working conditions, compensation, and benefits.
If ratified, the resulting 4-year contract will include pay increases compounding over the life of the contract, improved healthcare options, bereavement leave to include distant relatives and close friends, and a $1,000 ratification bonus. An agreement explainer meeting will be held on Friday, February 6, and finalization of a ratification vote is set for March 12.
CWA Broadband Technicians Close Pay Gap With New Contract
Share This Article:
Last week, CWA Local 7019 members of the Navajo Nation working for Frontier Communications in Arizona voted to ratify a four-year contract that closes a pay gap between Navajo telecommunications technicians and their counterparts elsewhere in the state. Members received help from labor ally Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego, who wrote a letter in September 2025 urging Frontier to bargain in good faith.

Navajo CWA members, despite long travel distances, harsh weather, and limited resources, maintain essential broadband and phone infrastructure across remote communities on the largest Indigenous reservation in the United States. Their contract is retroactive to March 2025 and will expire in 2029.
Allies Join the Call To Halt Nexstar-TEGNA Merger
Share This Article:
Last week, 28 public-interest groups, labor unions, and civil-rights organizations joined CWA-represented broadcast production and newspaper workers in our petition to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) calling for a halt to a proposed merger of Nexstar and TEGNA. The groups issued a letter of support for the petition, which members of NABET-CWA and The NewsGuild-CWA filed in 2025.
In the letter, signers wrote, “The proposed transaction would cause incredibly high levels of concentration in local TV markets, would raise cable and satellite prices around the country, would cause irreparable harm to local news and consumers, and would be contrary to the public interest.”
If approved, the merger could increase Nexstar’s national reach to more than 80 percent of U.S. television households, more than twice as large as the 39 percent limit set by Congress. CWA and allies warn of a marked loss of local news, viewpoint diversity, and overall broadcast competition. This merger would put more power into the hands of an elite few corporate owners whose interests may run counter to a fair and free press capable of holding those in power to account.

Nothing Stops a Blizzard: CWA Video Game Workers Ratify Third Microsoft Contract
Share This Article:
Blizzard Entertainment video game members at CWA Locals 1118 and 6215 overwhelmingly ratified a union contract at the Microsoft-owned game studio, ensuring guaranteed wage increases, enhanced regulations around the usage of AI, properly crediting members for their work, reasonable disability accommodations, and restrictions on excessive overtime.
This is the third contract at a Microsoft company after ZeniMax workers ratified a contract in late June and Raven Software workers ratified a contract in August of last year. The three-year agreement will cover over 60 workers in a range of quality assurance roles. Since 2024, thousands of Microsoft video game workers have joined CWA under the groundbreaking neutrality agreement under which Microsoft has agreed to take a neutral approach when covered employees express interest in joining our union.
“After nearly two decades in the video game industry, it feels great to work with my fellow union members in ratifying a fair contract that makes it easier to see a real, long-term career in this work,” said CWA Local 6215 member and Blizzard Austin senior quality analyst Matt Gant. “This agreement gives us a better working environment with increased pay, benefits, and layoff protections that include recall rights and ensures that quality assurance work remains a stable and respected role for the workers who will build games long after us.”

CWA Enters Federal Mediation With Piedmont Airlines
Share This Article:

Following two and a half years of negotiations, and with bargaining at a standstill, CWA entered federal mediation last week with Piedmont Airlines as required under the Railway Labor Act. CWA Piedmont members and CWA political activists held signs of support for the bargaining committee.
During the first mediation session, the bargaining team made it clear to the company that one of the main reasons for mediation is Piedmont’s inadequate wage proposals. Team members also stressed deep concerns over Piedmont’s lack of progress on improving benefits for part-time employees, despite having raised this issue repeatedly.
The next mediation session is scheduled for February 24-25.
Solidarity is the strongest tool we have at the table. Send a message to Piedmont Airlines CEO Eric Morgan to show you stand in solidarity with CWA members at Piedmont Airlines in their fight for a fair contract.
Post-Gazette Workers Announce Launch of PAPER
Share This Article:
After triumphing in their years-long battle for their rights, CWA members at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (PG) learned last month that owners were shutting the entire paper down, effective May 3, in retaliation. Having organized with many of the same community supporters who fought alongside them in their strike, last week members of the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh (TNG-CWA Local 38061) launched the Pittsburgh Alliance for People-Empowered Reporting (PAPER). PAPER exists to research and explore alternatives to the Block-owned PG that would serve as a source of communication and connection that reflects the needs of working-class people in the region.
The group has already raised more than $20,000, mostly in small donations from individual supporters—many of them recurring. Together, workers and community supporters are looking into cooperatives, non-profits, and other worker-centered business models. Click here to donate to PAPER and its fight for worker-centered journalism in Pittsburgh.
Hundreds of members and supporters have attended PAPER meetings in the past few weeks. They are asking supporters near and far to sign up here to volunteer to phone bank for PAPER, record supportive videos, and further organize for worker-centered journalism.
CWA Members Call Out ICE Coast to Coast

AWU-CWA Local 9009 President Parul Koul (above, left of center) participated in a national day of action in Boston, Mass., on January 30, while (below) AWU-CWA members did the same in San Francisco, Calif.

Members of Alphabet Workers United (AWU-CWA Local 9009), including AWU-CWA President Parul Koul, took part in bi-coastal protests last week against recent violence perpetrated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. These protests came in response to several high-profile deaths, including that of union member and Intensive Care Unit nurse Alex Pretti (AFGE Local 3669). Other union workers, including CWA members, have been detained while on the job or have felt unsafe traveling to work, making ICE actions a workplace safety concern for many working people.
This national action was a show of solidarity with all working people whose lives have been impacted by the recent surge in activity. AWU-CWA members work for multinational technology company Google, owned by parent company Alphabet, and have been outspoken about misuses of technology and digital surveillance against working-class people.
