“If the center [is] not open... [children] will suffer greatly.”

These words were spoken by Idil*, a mother of four in Somalia. Her 11-month-old son, Dalmar*, was born prematurely. When he began to vomit and have diarrhea, she took him to a Save the Children crisis care center, where he was evaluated for malnutrition.

In Somalia, children are facing a catastrophic hunger crisis after four consecutive failed rainy seasons have completely exhausted food reserves in several regions. The center plays a critical role in providing lifesaving care to kids, many of whom are in dire condition.

Cuts to global humanitarian aid funding threatened to close the center and created a shortage of prepackaged therapeutic milk – a crucial treatment for malnourished children.

The support of our incredible donor community helped keep this stabilization center open in Somalia, providing vital services such as treatment for common childhood illnesses, immunizations and screenings for malnutrition. Partnerships with other humanitarian aid organizations helped secure the therapeutic milk needed to support children’s recovery.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, Dalmar got the treatment he needed. Now, we’re asking for your support today to help us continue our work despite devastating aid cuts that have severed families’ lifelines.

Dalmar with his mother, Idil, at the stabilization center where he receives treatment for malnutrition.

Dalmar’s story illustrates how children are bearing the brunt of funding and policy decisions that put their lives and well-being in jeopardy. But with your support, our teams are able to put children first.

That means we can ensure children like Dalmar continue to receive the support they need to survive and thrive. He’s now back home with his siblings, gaining weight and getting better by the day.

Dalmar is now back at home, playing, laughing and smiling.

That’s the power your gift can make, John. During this time of uncertainty, your support is more important than ever.

Together, we can help children stay healthy and learning despite devastating aid cuts.
