Friend, Donald Trump’s reaction to the second killing of an American citizen by federal agents in Minnesota has been entirely predictable. Instead of directing his Department of Justice to conduct a full investigation of the agents involved, he sicced them after the state's Democratic officials, including Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and Rep. Ilhan Omar. He has populated the Justice Department leadership with cowards and toadies. He’s turned the Justice Department into both a sword to go after the president’s enemies and a shield to hide his corruption. When Trump took office for his second term, I committed to standing up to him anytime he abused his power, sought to undermine our democracy, or divide this country. That has been a tall order from day one. In his first year alone, he has unleashed unthinkable attacks on our democracy. From purging prosecutors at the Justice Department who refused to engage in unethical conduct, who put the rule of law above the rule of the person at the president’s desk, to these bogus attempts to prosecute his perceived enemies, including me. I’m not going to be intimidated by anything he says, by anything he does. Someone has to stand up to this abuse of power, to defend our country and its people. Someone has to fight back. I have and I always will. Because this fight isn’t over. It’s just beginning, and I won’t back down. I’m asking you to help me continue to hold Trump accountable by chipping in any amount you can. If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Look, this new year isn’t going to be easier. There very likely will be more attacks against me, our elections, and our democracy — but I’ll be there, speaking out, fighting back, and I know you will too. So, thanks for being part of this fight to preserve our democracy. — Adam
