President's Message

NASN’s position is that immunizations are essential to preventing and reducing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, and that school immunization requirements should align with the best available, scientifically rigorous evidence. I am pleased to highlight that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has released its updated 2026 Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule. These science-based recommendations—endorsed by 12 health professional societies—include guidance for 18 serious diseases, including RSV, hepatitis A and B, rotavirus, influenza, and meningococcal disease.

School nurses play a vital role in improving immunization coverage and are trusted sources of vaccine information for families navigating conflicting messaging. Trusted guidance has never been more critical. HealthyChildren.org, powered by AAP, offers resources to help parents and caregivers understand when and why children need vaccines as they grow. I also encourage you to share the Unity® Consortium’s latest episode of FACTSinnated, featuring a nationally recognized infectious disease expert discussing vaccines for children and adolescents, social media, community engagement, and more.
