After widespread backlash, the White House said Trump’s push to
nationalize elections is all about getting the SAVE Act passed – a bill
that would lead to mass voter suppression ahead of the 2026 midterms. Now,
Senate Republicans are already plotting to bring the bill up for a vote
and could try to sneak it into a must-pass funding package any day.

rights in a generation. We CANNOT allow Congress to pass this bill – but

The SAVE Act is not about “election security.” It’s a targeted attack on
everyday Americans who want their voices heard. It would require voters to
present a passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers just to
register or re-register to vote. It would directly undermine free and fair
elections, disproportionately impacting communities of color, young
people, low wage workers, and women – while fueling hateful anti-immigrant
rhetoric.
The bill will create significant barriers for more than 20 million people
who currently don’t have access to the required paperwork and do not have
the time or the resources to navigate the maze of paperwork or wait
in-line for new documents.
Our Constitution puts states in charge of elections for a reason. Local
control keeps our democracy strong – and safe from hacking and political
manipulation. Now, Trump and his cronies want to steamroll this system,
using tools like the SAVE Act to silence millions of voices. And we will
NOT let them get away with it.
